Giving Back
This is for my fellow photographers. Actually, this is for anyone who needs to remember why they are doing something they love. See, I'm in a busy stage of my life right now and don't always have time to promote my business to get paying customers. But I love photography. It's my passion and when I'm not being creative, I start to get both keyed up and burned out at the same time. So I found a solution.
Give back. I don't have time to advertise. But I do have time to make a post offering my services for free to a select group of people. For me it's foster parents. I have always wanted to foster but have always had too many kids (ha!). I admire the sacrifice and patience foster parents have - raising your own kids is hard, raising someone else's is harder. Especially when you add in having to balance the relationships between them and yourself and bio parents. These people are truly saints and I love being able to give back to people who give so much.
So I offer free pictures for foster families. Completely free. No strings attached. They get all the digital copies, I get to take pictures. We are both fulfilled and happy. And I get to meet some amazing people who inspire me to do better, be better. These foster moms and dads have it under control, or at least look like they do. They are always so grateful to me for taking photos for them. But I'm just as grateful that I get to meet inspiring new people and have a chance to do what I love.
So all of that to say, find a way to pay it forward in your own way. But trust that it will never feel like work if you are doing something you love for someone who truly needs it and appreciates it.
